Open Enrollment - Intradistrict Transfers

Open Enrollment/Intradistrict Transfer  Policy:

The district has an intradistrict enrollment policy that allows students to apply to attend a school other than their assigned school. Applications are only accepted during a designated period of time each year, depending on the grade level.  Note that each school is required to serve the students who live within its attendance boundary before accepting students outside the boundary. Additionally, some schools may be unavailable for open enrollment.

Existing CUSD Students

How to submit a School Of Choice Request for your existing CUSD student via the Parent Portal:      


Students NOT CURRENTLY attending a CUSD school

There are several steps that must be completed in order to request a School Of Choice Request for a student who does NOT currently attend a CUSD school:

  1. Complete the CUSD Online Enrollment process for the new student. Be sure to select the Pre-Enrollment option for the next school year. The instructions and links can be found HERE

  2. When the online enrollment process has been completed, print out and sign the Enrollment Confirmation and contact your Assigned School to set up an appointment to bring it and all supporting documents.

  3. Once your Assigned School has verified your residency documents and officially pre-enrolled your student, you will be provided Parent Portal access to submit the School Of Choice Request. 

High School Selection Window: January 6, 2020 - January 31, 2020

All 8th grade students must declare the high school they wish to attend (Sage Creek High School or Carlsbad High School).  This selection will be made in the Parent Portal. The link and documentation will be posted here when the window is opened. Students new to CUSD will be asked to select a high school when they utilize the Online Enrollment process once pre-enrollment for next year is initiated, on January 1st.

Students who are currently enrolled in high school do not need to complete a high school selection form unless they wish to transfer to another high school.  Students who wish to transfer between CUSD high schools must adhere to the application window and apply through the Parent Portal as well.  (Please note there are CIF regulations that will be followed for all athletes).
