Intradistrict Transfer/Open Enrollment Policy
The district has an intradistrict open enrollment policy (Board Policy 5116.1 and Administrative Regulation 5116.1) that allows students to apply to attend a school other than their assigned school. Applications are only accepted during a designated period of time each year, depending on the grade level. Note that each school is required to serve the students who live within its attendance boundary before accepting students outside the boundary. Additionally, some schools may be unavailable for open enrollment. Families will be notified of the decision by the first week in May.

The school will contact you once the information has been verified or if additional information is still needed.

Once your Assigned School has verified your residency documents and officially pre-enrolled your student, you will be provided Parent Portal access and will be able to submit the School Of Choice Request.
High School Selection Window: January 1, 2022 - January 31, 2022
All 8th-grade students must declare the high school they wish to attend (Sage Creek High School, Carlsbad High School, or Carlsbad Seaside Academy-Independent Study). This selection will be made in the Parent Portal. Students new to CUSD will be asked to select a high school when they utilize the Online Enrollment process once pre-enrollment for next year is initiated, on January 1st.
High School Selection Information
Students who are currently enrolled in high school do not need to complete a high school selection form unless they wish to transfer to another high school. Students who wish to transfer between CUSD high schools must adhere to the application window and apply through the Parent Portal as well. (Please note there are CIF regulations that will be followed for all athletes).
