Elementary and Middle School Open Enrollment Window #1

January 1, 2023 - March 31, 2023
 

FAMILIES WILL BE NOTIFIED BY THE FIRST WEEK OF MAY

 

Intradistrict Transfers are for students who live inside CUSD boundaries and wish to attend a school other than their current or assigned shool for the 2023-2034 school year.

Transitional Kindergarten (TK) programs will be offered at the following sites:
Jefferson Elementary: Serving Buena Vista, Calavera Hills, Hope, Jefferson, & Magnolia students
Poinsettia Elementary: Serving Aviara Oaks, Kelly, Pacific Rim & Poinsettia students

Schools with Space (opens for transfers): 
Carlsbad Seaside Academy (K-12 Independent Study program)
Calavera Hills Elementary
Jefferson Elementary

Schools with limited Space (one-to-one transfers only): 
Aviara Oaks Middle
Calavera Hills Middle
Hope Elementary
Kelly Elementary
Magnolia Elementary
Pacific Rim Elementary

Independent Study Program (Grades TK-12)

Carlsbad Seaside Academy (CSA) is open to all students. Students currently attending CSA who wish to transfer back to in-person instruction must complete an intradistrict transfer request and notify the CSA Office. These requests will be facilitated within 5 school days.

 

Intradistrict Open Enrollment Transfer Procedures (TK-8)
Current CUSD Students:

  1. Submit School of Choice request via the Parent Portal:  ENGLISH   SPANISH

Students New to CUSD: 

  1. Complete the CUSD Online Enrollment process (select pre-enrollment for 2023-2024)

  2. Once residency is verified and the student is pre-enrolled, families will have access to the Parent Portal and will be able to submit a School of Choice request.  ENGLISH    SPANISH

 
High School Selection Window #1

January 1, 2023 - January 31, 2023
 

All 8th-grade students must declare the high school they wish to attend (Carlsbad High School or Sage Creek High School).  This selection will be made in the Parent Portal. Students new to CUSD will be asked to select a high school when they utilize the Online Enrollment process once pre-enrollment for next year is opened on January 1st. 

High School Selection Information

Students currently enrolled in high school do not need to complete a high school selection form unless they wish to transfer to another high school.  Students who wish to transfer between CUSD high schools must adhere to the application window and apply through the Parent Portal as well.  (Please note there are CIF regulations that will be followed for all athletes).

 

Students wishing to attend Carlsbad Seaside Academy-Independent Study program will need to submit an intradistrict open enrollment transfer through the Parent Portal.

 

CUSD Intradistrict Open Enrollment Transfer Policy

  • Families who miss the window will have another opportunity to apply during Window #2 (June 1-16, 2023). However, these requests may not be finalized until after the school year has started)

  • Transfer requests are approved based on available space at the requested school, grade level, and/or program

  • Students will be placed in priority order for (a) siblings, (b) students who have attended for a full year, (c) students of employees at the school, (d) students assigned to impacted schools

  • A random drawing will be conducted if more requests than available space are received

  • Once notified, families have 10 days to change their minds; otherwise, students are expected to attend the approved school at least through the next school year

  • Transfers are approved through the grade span (TK, K-5, or 6-8) and families do not need to reapply each year unless they wish to change schools

  • Students must maintain satisfactory attendance, citizenship, and scholarship or the intradistrict transfer may be revoked and the student will be required to return to their school of residence for the following school year

  • A separate request must be submitted for each student, even if there is currently a sibling attending the requested school

  • All transfer decisions are final. There are no appeals.
