Opportunities for Public Input: Rebalancing the Trustee Area Boundary Maps
Posted 1/9/22

In 2017, Carlsbad Unified’s Board of Trustees converted from an at-large election system (where board members are selected by voters from across CUSD) to a by-district system (where board members are selected by voters only in the area they represent). Each of the five elected members of the Carlsbad Unified Board of Trustees represents a specific geographic area.

Every ten years, local governments use new census data to redraw their district lines to rebalance each area and reflect how local populations have changed. This does NOT affect school attendance boundaries.

After a demographic review and analysis conducted by a third party, the Board received three map options to consider for rebalanced voting districts, and would like your feedback. You may provide feedback in the following ways:

  • Submit feedback via this webform.

  • Provide comment during the Public Hearing portion of upcoming Board meetings on January 19 (when the draft maps are reviewed) and February 16 (when the final map is approved). Learn more about Board meetings here.
