Veronica Williams was elected to the Carlsbad Unified School District Board of Trustees in 2010. Born in San Diego, Veronica and her husband have lived in Carlsbad since 2000 and have two young boys. She received her degree in Mathematics with an emphasis in Computer Science. She is a small business owner developing online solutions for private and public entities. In the fall of 2012, she received her certification in the California School Boards Association Masters in Governance program. Ms. William's two sons attend a CUSD elementary school. Her priorities for CUSD are: To develop and prepare our students for the 21st century workplace, improve student achievement, outcomes, and graduation rate, and teach students to become lifelong learners in a safe and healthy environment. Besides Ms. William's passion for education and technology, she is an avid sportsman – trail runner, adventure racer, soccer player and flying trapeze artist.

Claudine JonesClaudine Jones, Vice President - Email / Trustee Area 4

Mrs. Claudine Jones has lived in Carlsbad for over a decade with her husband and two young children. She received her BS from Michigan State University. She also completed her CASBO certification from University of Southern California. She was appointed to the Board of Trustees in September 2013, and her current term runs through December 2022. Before moving to Carlsbad, Mrs. Jones was a corporate merchandiser for Gap, Inc., and a web producer in the Yahoo Shopping division. Although she continues to work in the financial field, she is a full-time volunteer, supporting her children’s education.  Mrs. Jones serves on the Carlsbad Unified Council PTA Board, Valley Middle School PTA Board, the Carlsbad Educational Foundation Grant Writing Collaborative, and takes annual trips to Sacramento to advocate on behalf of public schools.  She is also a board member of the League of Women Voters of North County San Diego. She enjoys spending time with children in the classrooms, tutoring, coaching students and teachers on technology, and monitoring students on campus.  In her spare time, she trains for half-marathons, reads, and bakes.

Elisa WilliamsonElisa Williamson, Clerk - Email / Trustee Area 2

Mrs. Elisa Williamson, a 30-year Carlsbad resident, has served on the Board of Trustees since April 2000. Her two children both graduated from CUSD; one teaches high school English and the other majored in Asian Studies and tutors at a K-8 STEM enrichment program. She has served as Board President or Vice President for 8 years.  While serving on the Board, she spearheaded the development of a Governance Handbook, District Vision Statement, and the Continuous Improvement process. She was the co-chair of the Prop P bond campaign and has sat on numerous committees, include Strategic Planning, GATE, Superintendent selection and Graduate Profile. She received "Masters in Governance" certification through the California School Boards Association. Ms. Williamson earned a Master's Degree in Business Education from Brigham Young University and worked for several years as a communications specialist and part-time teacher. She just completed two years of facilitating a weekly student gathering to prepare adults for college success. She is currently the Director of Marketing for a Registered Investment Advisor. 

Ray PearsonRay Pearson, Member - Email / Trustee Area 3

Mr. Ray Pearson was elected to the Carlsbad Unified School District Board of Trustees in 2014. Born and raised in Southern California, Ray attended California public schools and received a B.S. from California State University, Los Angeles. Ray is married and has three adult children, with his youngest graduating from Carlsbad High School. He has a 30+ year business career working for companies in the science, technology, engineering, and math industries. Ray has over 40 years of community involvement with the YMCA, Boys & Girls Club, Carlsbad Charitable Foundation, Rotary Club, North Coastal Prevention Coalition, City of Carlsbad Senior Commission, Mitchell Thorp Foundation, CHS Baccalaureate Committee, Proposition P Oversight Committee, Parent Association Board, and CHS School Site Council.  He acts as a judge for the CHS Speech and Debate tournaments, and recruits community members to serve as speech and debate judges. Ray is committed to ensuring a bright future for all children and our community. His goal is to direct more dollars in the classroom without placing more of a burden on Carlsbad taxpayers. In his spare time he surfs, swims, plays tennis and enjoys traveling with his wife.

KathyKathy Rallings, Member - Email / Trustee Area 5

Kathy Rallings was elected to the Carlsbad Unified School District Board of Trustees in 2014.  She grew up in Huntington Beach, California and is a product of the California public school system.  She received a B.A. in Speech Communications from California State University, Long Beach and an M.A. in Negotiations and Conflict Management from California State University, Dominguez Hills.  She has an adult son who is attending the University of Washington and pursuing a baseball career, and a son who attends elementary school in the district.  She is currently a Health Benefits Specialist, assisting public school districts throughout California to become more knowledgeable purchasers of health care.  Her vision for Carlsbad schools is to create an environment of engagement with parents, teachers and community members to support our students and to prepare them for the future.  In her spare time Kathy enjoys spending time with family, playing tennis, water and snow skiing, and watching her older son play baseball.

2020-21 Student Representatives to the Board

Aaron Harris - Carlsbad High School

Aaron Harris is a 12th grade student at Carlsbad High School. He feels that his job is important because he can act as the liaison between the students of the district and the school board. He’ll represent the opinions of everyone in a fair way, and resolve school-wide and district-wide concerns. This year his class schedule includes Broadcasting, AP Spanish, AP Economics, AP English, AP Calculus, and Football PE. After high school he plans to play football at a high level academic four year university, and major in political science. He is an executive producer in the broadcast journalism program at CHS. His interests/hobbies include most outdoor activities: going on runs, biking, hiking, football, soccer, and golf. He is also passionate about playing the piano, and loves to travel whether it is across the world, or simply a day trip to somewhere nearby.

 

Madison Blankenhorn - Sage Creek High School

Madison Blankenhorn is a 12th grade student at Sage Creek High School. Madison feels that her job is important because providing a voice for all students to feel comfortable, safe, heard, and respected is essential in creating a positive learning environment. She wants all students to feel welcomed and as though they have a strong support system within their school district. She believes her job is important because all students deserve to be heard and connected to their school as well as the authorities who are there to provide them with the support they need to succeed. This year her class schedule includes AP Spanish, AP Economics, Psychology, Statistics and Dance 4. She will earn her Seal of Biliteracy. After high school she plans to attend a four-year university to pursue a degree in psychology. Her interests/hobbies include dancing with the Sage Creek Dance Company, spending time with friends and family, and going to the beach.

 

Joy Sauder - CSA/CVA

Joy Sauder is a 12th grade student at Carlsbad Seaside Academy. She wants to bring a unique perspective to the Board of Trustees that represents high school students. This year her class schedule includes English 4, Economics, and Government at Carlsbad Seaside Academy and College Algebra, Trigonometry, and Psychology at Palomar College. After high school she plans to earn her associate degree at Palomar College before attending a four-year university. Her interests/hobbies include reading, dancing, and hiking.
