We are happy to share that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) has announced the recent HealthierUS School Challenge (HUSSC) winners (from the July 1, 2012, through the August 30, 2014, criteria). Our District received 9 Bronze Awards in early 2015, and their certification period is for four years.

What is the HealthierUS School Challenge Initiative?

The HUSSC is a voluntary certification initiative established by the USDA FNS. The USDA FNS has revised the HUSSC criteria on August 31, 2014. The criteria are now named the HealthierUS School Challenge: Smarter Lunchrooms (HUSSC: SL). The HUSSC: SL focuses on creating healthier school environments through the promotion of smarter lunchrooms, nutrition education, and physical education and activity. To learn more about the HUSSC: SL, please visit the USDA HUSSC: SL Web page at http://www.fns.usda.gov/hussc/healthierus-school-challenge-smarter-lunchrooms.
