Carlsbad Unified School District (CUSD) announces that Kimberly Fuentes has been appointed as Principal of Calavera Hills Elementary School (CHE). Ms. Fuentes is currently the Assistant Principal at Aviara Oaks Middle School.

Ms. Fuentes has worked in Carlsbad Unified since 2005. She began her career in CUSD as a teacher at Magnolia Elementary School, teaching kindergarten, first, and fourth grades. She also served as an Elementary Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA). She has facilitated curriculum adoption teams, led professional development for teachers, acted as a lead teacher/trainer for Learning Headquarters and Achieve 3000, and served as a BTSA Mentor Teacher.

Ms. Fuentes earned a Preliminary Administrative Services Credential at California State University, San Marcos. She received a BA, Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, and MA in Education at Point Loma Nazarene University, San Diego.

Superintendent Ben Churchill stated "I am delighted to promote one of our very own to this position. We asked for feedback from staff and parents about the qualities they would prefer to see in the next principal at Calavera Hills Elementary, and Kimberly's background and skills make her the ideal person for this role. I am very excited about the future at CHE."
