The Board of Trustees of Carlsbad Unified School District announces the appointment of Christopher Wright as Assistant Superintendent of Business Services. Mr. Wright is the current Associate Superintendent of Business Services of Oceanside Unified School District (OUSD). He oversees Fiscal Services, Maintenance and Operations, Facilities, Nutrition Services, and Transportation for OUSD’s 24 schools, which serve 18,500 students with an annual operating budget over $200 million.
Mr. Wright has been selected to fill a vacancy resulting from the retirement of Deputy Superintendent Suzanne O’Connell, effective July 1, 2017, after 40 years in education. Mrs. O’Connell has served in Carlsbad Unified for 12 years, serving as Assistant Superintendent, Instructional Services, before being named Deputy Superintendent, Administrative Services, in 2013.
Prior to his three years in Oceanside, Mr. Wright was Vice President, School Finance, for ExED San Diego. He oversaw the financial management and business operations for seven charter schools and a foundation.
Before that, Mr. Wright worked for the Denver Public Schools as a Senior Program Manager. He was responsible for a $13 million performance management initiative to create and implement a multiple-measure teacher evaluation system.
Mr. Wright graduated from the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, and then served as a Naval Flight Officer, leading combat flights in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
He earned an MBA at San Diego State University in 2005, and completed the Broad Residency in Urban Education in 2011.
“Mr. Wright is a talented administrator who will bring a wealth of unique experience to this position,” said Board President Elisa Williamson. “His vision and skills are an excellent fit for our District, and I look forward to working with him.”
