The application period for Interdistrict transfer permits for the 2016-2017 school year is closed. Applications for Interdistrict transfer permits for the 2017-2018 school year must be submitted to the District Office during the transfer application period. The transfer application period is January 1, 2017 through March 31, 2017.

INTERDISTRICT TRANSFERS

INTER-district transfer request applications are for students who live OUTSIDE CUSD boundaries and wish to attend CUSD schools. The Carlsbad Unified School District transitioned to a Basic Aid funding model in 2008-09. This occurred because the revenue limit (funding per student) had been dramatically reduced by the state. The district now relies solely on local property taxes within the district boundary to operate its schools. We are no longer funded on a per student formula from the state. The transition to Basic Aid funding was not a district election, but a mathematical computation performed by the state. Under this new funding model and in order to ensure a quality education for students residing within the district, the Carlsbad Unified School District is not approving any new inter-district transfer students for the 2015-16 school year. Exceptions to this are below: 1) The student was on an Interdistrict attendance agreements during the 2007-08 school year (CUSD BP 5117; CUSD AR 5117) 13 2) The student moved out of Carlsbad Unified School District following his/her Junior Year and wishes to finish his/her Senior Year at a Carlsbad Unified School District (CUSD BP 5117; CUSD AR 5117) Please note that this change in policy and procedure does not change the school district’s authority to revoke the interdistrict transfer permit for any student who does not maintain satisfactory grades, attendance, and behavior.
