• Congratulations Carlsbad Broadcast Journalism students on top national honors at 2017 Student Television Network Convention

Carlsbad Broadcast Journalism students receive top national honors at the 2017 Student Television Network Convention in Anaheim, California

 

Carlsbad, California (March 31, 2017) – Student Television Network (STN) officials announced today that Carlsbad High School and Valley Middle School Broadcast Journalism students are the winners of The National Award of Excellence, the nation’s highest honor in both high school and middle school broadcast journalism at the 2017 STN Convention in Anaheim, CA.

 

This year the convention was held just outside of Anaheim’s famous theme park, Disneyland, but for the over 100 students who traveled from Carlsbad, CA, the broadcasting competition was the main attraction. Both programs are taught by Doug Green, the 2016 California Teacher of the Year award recipient.

 

The Carlsbad students were competing against thousands of students from around the world. Tough competition and tight deadlines left no time for amusement parks. Instead, these young journalist were able to attain the national title while telling their stories through film. Carlsbad High School, Valley Middle School and Aviara Oaks Middle School took home a combined total of seventeen national awards from the international competition.

 

3,000 student journalists from around the world were competing in several  categories which included Action Sports Editing, Short Film, Movie Trailer, Spot Feature, Breaking News, Music Video and PSA.

 

In addition to the Awards of Excellence honors, Carlsbad High School Television (CHSTV), Valley Middle School (VMSTV), and Aviara Oaks Middle School (Falcon News) received awards in the following categories:

 

Anchor Team (Valley Middle School 1st Honorable Mention)

Movie Trailer (Valley Middle School 1st Place)

Natural Sound Package (Valley Middle School 3rd Place)

Public Service Announcement (Valley Middle School 1st Place)

Spot Feaure (Valley Middle School 2nd Honorable Mention)

Music Video (Aviara Oaks Middle School 2nd Honorable Mention)

Silent Film (Aviara Oaks Middle School 1st Place)

Convention Recap (Aviara Oaks Middle School 1st Place)

Breaking News (Carlsbad High School 3rd Place)

Sports Highlight (Carlsbad High School 3rd Place)

Crazy 8 Broadcast (Carlsbad High School 2nd Honorable Mention)

Crazy 8 Film (Carlsbad High School 2nd Place)
