• Carlsbad Unified’s Classified Employee of the Year Announced

Carlsbad Unified School District announces that Terri Leon has been named the Classified Employee of the Year for 2017.

Ms. Leon works as Production Assistant for CHSTV at Carlsbad High School. She was nominated by Doug Green, 2016 California Teacher of the Year, who teaches Broadcast Journalism at Carlsbad High School and Valley Middle School.

As the classroom assistant in the Broadcast Journalism program at Carlsbad High School,  Ms. Leon has been a vital part of CHSTV, the number one ranked high school program in the United States.  Her work has contributed to the success of both the daily live broadcast and the award-winning documentary films made for PBS, bringing positive attention to the school and the community.

Ms. Leon has a strong rapport with her students. She genuinely cares about their well-being, and treats every student with respect.  She encourages her young journalists to step out of their comfort zone and embrace challenge.

“Ms. Leon exemplifies a true professional—honest, kind, knowledgeable, and willing to go above and beyond to ensure the success of the program.” said Superintendent Ben Churchill. “I am impressed with the dedication of Ms. Leon, and appreciate the contributions of all of the talented classified employees of Carlsbad Unified.”

"Terri's contribution to the broadcasting program at Carlsbad High School is profound,” said Doug Green. “She supports the program and the students on so many levels.  Her dedication and energy motivates us all.”

Terri Leon will now move forward as Carlsbad Unified’s candidate for San Diego County Office of Education’s Classified Employee of the Year.
