Ann Tanner, President - Email

Ann Tanner was elected to the Carlsbad Unified School District Board of Trustees in 2010. Born and raised in California, Ann is a product of the California public school system. She received a B.A. from Stanford University and a Masters of Science degree from Columbia University in New York City, graduating in the top 5% of her class. Ann participated in the "Masters in Governance" certification course through the California School Board Association. She represents the Board on the City of Carlsbad/CUSD Joint Issues Committee. Ann is a psychotherapist, counselor and licensed clinical social worker with an expertise in chemical dependency, depression, parent coaching, disaster mental health and grief recovery. Currently, Ann is a Clinical Program Manager in Addiction Medicine. She is a Critical Response Team member for Mass Casualties for the American Red Cross. Ann is the mother of 5 children, an avid surfer, recently completed her first marathon, and has a passion for reading and life-long learning. Ann's vision for Carlsbad schools is to have all of Carlsbad's children thrive as engaged, resilient learners, prepared to be successful in an ever-changing world.

Veronica Williams, Vice President - Email

Veronica Williams was elected to the Carlsbad Unified School District Board of Trustees in 2010. Born in San Diego, Veronica and her husband have lived in Carlsbad since 2000 and have two young boys. She received her degree in Mathematics with an emphasis in Computer Science. She is a small business owner developing online solutions for private and public entities. In the fall of 2012, she received her certification in the California School Boards Association Masters in Governance program. Ms. William's two sons attend a CUSD elementary school. Her priorities for CUSD are: To develop and prepare our students for the 21st century workplace, improve student achievement, outcomes, and graduation rate, and teach students to become lifelong learners in a safe and healthy environment. Besides Ms. William's passion for education and technology, she is an avid sportsman – trail runner, adventure racer, soccer player and flying trapeze artist.

Claudine Jones, Clerk - Email

Mrs. Claudine Jones has lived in Carlsbad for over a decade with her husband and two young children. She received her bachelor of Science from Michigan State University. She was appointed to the Board of Trustees in September 2013, and her current term runs through November 2014. Before moving to Carlsbad, Mrs. Jones was a corporate merchandiser for Gap, Inc., and a web producer in the Yahoo Shopping division. Although she continues to work in the financial field, she is a full-time volunteer, supporting her children’s education.  Mrs. Jones serves on the Carlsbad Unified Council PTA Board, Valley Middle School PTA Board, the Carlsbad Educational Foundation Grant Writing Collaborative, and takes annual trips to Sacramento to advocate on behalf of public schools.  She is also a board member of the League of Women Voters of North County San Diego. She enjoys spending time with children in the classrooms, tutoring, coaching students and teachers on technology, and monitoring students on campus.  In her spare time, she trains for half-marathons, reads, and bakes.

Lisa Rodman, Member - Email

Ms. Lisa Rodman was elected to the Board of Trustees in November 2002. Her current term runs through 2014. She has been an advocate for excellence in education since 1992. She began as a classroom volunteer and served on numerous executive boards in schools and in the community of Carlsbad. Ms. Rodman holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication from California State University, San Marcos. Ms. Rodman is currently the Executive Director at Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation. She is on the board of Hospice of the North Coast, and Hi-Noon Rotary of Carlsbad.

Elisa Williamson, Member - Email

Mrs. Elisa Williamson, a 23-year Carlsbad resident, has served on the Board of Trustees since April 2000. Her two children both graduated from CUSD; one teaches middle school and the other attends college. While serving on the Board, she spearheaded the development of a Governance Handbook and the District Vision Statement. She received "Masters in Governance" certification through the California School Boards Association. Ms. Williamson earned a Master's Degree in Business Education from Brigham Young University and worked for several years as a communications specialist and part-time teacher. She is currently the Director of Marketing for a financial advisor.

Jason Oliver, 2013-2014 Student Representative to the Board of Trustees

Jason Oliver, a 12th grade student at Carlsbad High School, was appointed to the position of Student Representative to the Board of Trustees for the 2013-2014 school year. As student representative, Jason aims to serve as a channel of communication between CUSD students and the Board of Trustees, and to assist the Superintendent in creating additional programs for students to voice their opinions and concerns. Jason has been an active member of ASB through middle school and high school and hopes the leadership skills he has acquired can help him serve as a strong link between Carlsbad High School and the Carlsbad community. After graduating high school, Jason plans on receiving a law degree, working as a navy lawyer, and then transitioning to the F.B.I. In his free time, Jason loves to sail, kayak, surf, and travel. His Dad was born in France, so he frequently travels to France to visit his family and speaks fluent French.
